#TBT to 1953, the year Ralph Ellison became the first African American to win a National Book Award for the now classic novel Invisible Man. Here’s a sampling of Don DeLillo’s many celebrated works. At the 2015 National Book Awards, he will be presented with the National Book Foundation’s lifetime achievement award, the Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters.
According to the Foundation’s Board of Directors, DeLillo is being honored for a diverse body of work that examines the mores of contemporary modern American culture and brilliantly embeds the rhythms of everyday speech within a beautifully composed, contoured narrative.

Don DeLillo to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award
The National Book Foundation’s will award Don DeLillo its Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters at the 2015 National Book Awards ceremony. The award will presented by Jennifer Egan.
