We’re a country that goes to war, and if we’re going to be good citizens, all of us, veterans and civilians alike, we should be able to talk about what the experience of war means, so we know what the hell we’re voting for, what we’re doing as a country.
Trying to have a conversation with someone (or even an honest conversation with yourself) about your war experience is an exercise in navigating through all the cultural garbage that’s out there.
This is the other reason why I was so happy Phil won last night. I usually shy away from self-promotion, but I feel pretty honored to have been asked by nationalbook to interview him.
