Today is the birthday of S.E. Luria, Winner of the National Book Award in the short-lived Sciences category in 1974 for Life: The Unfinished Experiment. The Judges’ citation for his book reads:
“One of the major advances in modern sciences is the discovery of the molecular structure of the gene. Professor Luria, one of the key figures in this achievement, has made in Life: The Unfinished Experiment an admirable presentation of the subject. And what is more has revealed in a fascinating way some of its implications for the future evolution of man.”
